Yes. I have learned to live a more peaceful life by not questioning anyone else's motives. The person purchasing steaks and lobsters may be celebrating something special, the first member of the family that had the ability to go to college, grandmother's 100th birthday, whatever.
The message recieved from the OP is spot on. The person sitting across the table from you in the lunchroom may only be saying they are on a diet as a cover for not having a sandwich.
