Salesman from Self Starters, Inc.

Postby LBraly » Tue Jan 21, 2014 7:29 pm

Wondering if anyone else had a visit from someone from "Self Starters, Inc."? A gentleman knocked on our door this evening, sort of selling magazines for high prices to help him succeed. Supposedly some wealthy man has created this "company" to help under privileged young people succeed. My kind husband wrote a check but, after much back-and-forth, we stopped the check shortly thereafter. According to the young man (30 something), he made 70K last year! Anyone else have this particular visit? Weirder still, we had another knock at our door about 30 minutes later from someone else... target??? Yikes!

do a quick google search for self starters, inc. and you will find they have complaints at the bbb and numerous 'scam' alerts about them.

So you gave a stranger at your door your checking account number? Good luck with that one!

With all the break in's around town as of late, If I don't know them I don't open the door. I just tell them I'm not interested. No need for them to see what you may have in plain site.

The solicitors from solar companies and window companies and pest companies are usually not too bad if you tell them you are not interested. The Kirby Vacuum people are the worst ~~ very pushy, and they only want to come in and clean one room "for free". HA !

About 25 years ago we mistakenly let a Kirby guy in, then we almost had to call the police to get him out ;) Never ever again!

ask to see their business and/or solicitors license from the city. Can't produce them, they need to leave. And don't let them into the house.

I hate the carpet cleaning people, had a young lady bitch me out for being "rude" because I said I wasn't interested and closed the door..

2nd worst is the AT&T people who insist they are "upgrading" everyone in the neighborhood and just need you to sign some forms real quick. yeah. right.

I've got a no soliciting sign. Works about 75% of the time!

Four Cited For Aggressive Soliciting is the article in the news section

In the last few weeks I have had 3 solicitors at different times. 2 of them looked familiar from years past. After reading this article I think the heavy set guy was the same one who tried to make me feel guilty and muttered an ominous forecast for my future when I did not buy into his sob story. He had caught me outside on my drive. I only open my door to people I know.
